Hello! I am Sangwon Lee. I am an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the New Mexico State University. My research examines the impact of digital media on democratic processes. In particular, I focus on how social media use changes the ways in which people learn about, engage with, and form opinions on political and social issues. My current research revolves around misinformation/fake news — the factors that make people vulnerable to misinformation and conspiracy theories and the reasons that corrections often fail to change their minds. My research has appeared in New Media & Society, Mass Communication and Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Political Behavior, and International Journal of Communication among others. I have taught courses such as Communication Theory and Discovery, Political Communication, Persuasion, and Quantitative Research Methods.
Outside of academia, I love spending time with family and friends. I like to play all kinds of sports, especially tennis and basketball. I love chatting with people and getting to know their stories (especially, with beer)
