I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My research interests include uses and effects of new media technologies; mass communication and media effects; civic engagement and public opinion formation. In particular,  I focus on how social media use changes the ways in which people learn about, engage with, and form opinions on political and social issues. I investigate these issues using surveys, experiments, content analysis, and computational text analysis.

In this way, my work aims to tackle one of the most urgent questions facing contemporary society: “Do social media undermine or enhance democracy, and how can it be better used to benefit our society?”
