Sangwonlee

Hello! I am Sangwon Lee. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the New Mexico State University. My research examines the impact of digital media on democratic processes. In particular, I focus on how social media use changes the ways in which people learn about, engage with, and form opinions on political and social issues. My current research revolves around misinformation/fake news — the factors that make people vulnerable to misinformation and conspiracy theories and the reasons that corrections often fail to change their minds. My research has appeared in Communication Research, New Media & Society, Mass Communication and Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Political Behavior, and International Journal of Communication among others. I have taught various courses in the areas of communication theory, political communication, persuasion, and research methods.

Outside of academia, I love spending time with family and friends. I like to play all kinds of sports, especially tennis and basketball. I love chatting with people and getting to know their stories (especially, with beer)
